Why I Teach

Literacy is more than just learning to read, it is the foundation that allows children to understand the world, express themselves, and build confidence that carries into every part of their lives. I am deeply passionate about literacy because I’ve seen firsthand how early struggles with reading can affect a child’s self-esteem, academic progress, and love of learning. Nothing brings me more joy than watching a child light up when the pieces finally click and they discover the joy of reading. Every child deserves strong literacy roots that allow them to flourish.

  • "We are incredibly grateful for Hannah Duzs and the impact she has had on our daughter. Hannah began working with her when she was just 3 years old, and from the very beginning she made learning fun, engaging, and exciting. More importantly, she sparked a genuine love of reading that has stayed with her ever since."

  • “I cannot recommend Hannah highly enough. During the height of the COVID, I was working long hours at the hospital while my children were trying to navigate virtual school. Hannah stepped in to tutor my children, who were in the 3rd and 5th grades at the time. She did not just teach them; she completely transformed their educational trajectories during one of the most challenging times our family has ever faced.

When Hannah started, my daughter Reece was in 3rd grade and required special intervention for reading. Hannah’s patience, tailored approach, and dedication built a foundation that changed everything. Today, Reece has just started high school. She is in regular classes and maintaining straight As—a milestone that felt impossible back then.

My son Reno was in 5th grade when Hannah tutored him. He is now a junior at Venice High School, excelling in the highly rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program while successfully balancing two sports.

Hannah provided the structured, nurturing environment my children needed when the world was in chaos and I could not be home to guide their learning. Her impact on my children's academic confidence and success is permanent. Quite simply, their achievements today would not have been possible without her help. She is an absolute blessing to any family she works with.”

  • “I highly recommend Hannah Duzs for the dedication, expertise, and support she provided to a fourth-grade student with significant phonics deficits. She came into the classroom several times a week to provide targeted, individualized instruction and consistently demonstrated patience, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to his success.

Through her consistent support and effective instruction, he made excellent growth in phonics and foundational reading skills. She used positive reinforcement, encouragement, and praise to keep him engaged and motivated, even when the work was challenging. Her positive approach helped him build confidence, stay focused, and persevere. Her efforts made a significant difference in his academic progress and helped ensure he was better prepared for the following school year.”
